Ellen Levy
Ellen Levy grew up on a relatively large dairy farm
located in Black River, a small community in Nova
Scotia. She started riding at the age of 4 and began
participating in local shows on her pony, shortly
thereafter.
By the time she was 11 she graduated to a larger
mount, an Appaloosa/QH and took riding lessons from
BJ Wilson, an instructor who started her love of
riding and especially jumping. For the next couple
of years she showed in Appaloosa and open shows
as well as traveling to the CEF Hunter/Jumper shows
with her older sister where they competed on a horse
they had trained and so was born the "training
bug".
After graduating with honors from high school she
enrolled in the Nova Scotia Agricultural College
Pre-Vet Program. While still in college she drove
2 hours home every weekend to give beginner riding
lessons and train some other local horses. It was
at this time that she finally succumbed to the "training"
dream and managed to stumble (with great luck) into
a person who had connections to the horse industry
in Alberta.
Fully intending to return to school, she worked
here with us for the summer of 1996 and it was then
that she made the decision to stay on, full time,
at Soderberg Quarter Horses. Much to her parents
dismay, the horse crazy child had finally settled
on a career in the equine industry and has been
happily riding ever since.
Making the transition to life in Red Deer has been
very rewarding to Ellen. She has gained knowledge
in all aspects of the equine industry and more specifically
in the breeding and training of the American Quarter
Horse. Working at Soderberg Quarter Horses has proved
to be everything she dreamed of in an equine career
and currently she is beginning to gather and breed
a small herd of her own mares and is looking forward
to training and promoting their resulting offspring. |

Sam
Adie
Sam
Adie, born in High River, Alberta, has been riding
horses since before she could walk. When she was
two years old, her family move north west of Rimbey
where her parents own and operate a large Horse
and Cattle ranch. Sam spent her early childhood
riding a wide range of horses, from, Bubbles, a
welsh-pinto pony, to Jo and Jezebel, old ranch horses.
She spent hours with her dad learning how to start
and break ranch and rope horses.
When
she turned nine, her parents decided to give her
her very own horse. A red dun QH weanling by the
name of Misty. With help from her dad, Sam trained
and showed misty in 4-H and local shows. By the
age of thirteen, she wanted to try riding English,
and compete in Jumping and Dressage. After taking
a couple of lessons at Cromdale Stables, under the
guidance of Kippy Maitland-Smith, she decided that
she really enjoyed it and became more involved in
that aspect of training and showing. Sam rode, trained,
and showed a wide assortment of horses in a number
of different disciplines including, jumping, dressage,
barrel racing and other gymkhana events, ranch horse
competitions, cutting, reining, and in open shows
and 4-H; western pleasure, horsemanship, hunter
under saddle, equitation, showmanship and trail.
She also helped her dad out by giving riding lessons
to beginners.
After
graduating high school with honors, Sam had every
intention of working at home on the ranch for a
year, while deciding what to take in college. But,
when her cousin needed a roommate in Red Deer, she
decided to move out and get a job.She stared working
with us september of 2006, and decided, not to go
to school, but do this full time. Sam's time working
for Soderberg Quarter Horses has been very rewarding
and educational to her and she is looking forward
to continuing in the equine industry.
