Ellen Levy grew up on a relatively
large dairy farm located in Black River, a small
community in Nova Scotia. She started riding at
the age of 4 and began participating in local shows
on her pony, shortly thereafter.
By the time she was 11 she graduated to a larger
mount, an Appaloosa/QH and took riding lessons from
BJ Wilson, an instructor who started her love of
riding and especially jumping. For the next couple
of years she showed in Appaloosa and open shows
as well as traveling to the CEF Hunter/Jumper shows
with her older sister where they competed on a horse
they had trained and so was born the "training
bug".
After graduating with honors from high school she
enrolled in the Nova Scotia Agricultural College
Pre-Vet Program. While still in college she drove
2 hours home every weekend to give beginner riding
lessons and train some other local horses. It was
at this time that she finally succumbed to the "training"
dream and managed to stumble (with great luck) into
a person who had connections to the horse industry
in Alberta.
Fully intending to return to school, she worked
here with us for the summer of 1996 and it was then
that she made the decision to stay on, full time,
at Soderberg Quarter Horses. Much to her parents
dismay, the horse crazy child had finally settled
on a career in the equine industry and has been
happily riding ever since.
Making the transition to life in Red Deer has been
very rewarding to Ellen. She has gained knowledge
in all aspects of the equine industry and more specifically
in the breeding and training of the American Quarter
Horse. Working at Soderberg Quarter Horses has proved
to be everything she dreamed of in an equine career
and currently she is beginning to gather and breed
a small herd of her own mares and is looking forward
to training and promoting their resulting offspring.
